  • 00:17:35 John Farr: What is earliest ripening and cold hardy apricot?
  • 00:18:38 timlussier: Chris Homanics is at event and won’t be online today
  • 00:20:38 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: We’ll do the Show and Tell after the annual meeting!
  • 00:27:02 robert liebermann, upper peninsula: if any Pomona are sent to libraries, that cost should be borne by all members whether they get the printed or not.
  • 00:27:31 robert liebermann, upper peninsula: (in my opinion as a fan of libraries who is too cheap to buy the printed)
  • 00:28:07 Kaitlyn Chambers: For our Amish members who can’t attend the conference, can we send them printed slides from the speakers? I’m also writing up a summary of events to put into the next Pomona edition.
  • 00:30:46 Kaitlyn Chambers: Can we nominate ourselves for the election?
  • 00:30:47 Tim F. Lussier, M.A.: Great point Kaitlyn. Maybe best bet is putting the presentation slides into the Pomona. The organization literally started with just sharing our info which became the journal Pomona passing around.
  • 00:37:05 Melissa Flora: Congratulations, Matt!!
  • 00:49:42 Melissa Flora: I would like to volunteer or participate in some capacity. Perhaps participate in the board in the future.
  • I run the Lost Apple Project, Midwest in Michigan. I also am operating a small nursery and scaling it up that focuses on heirloom apples, pawpaw, persimmon, small fruits and nut trees as well as other plants that can be used as foraged foods and/or medicine.
  • 00:50:15 Matt.Stevens: Thanks Melissa!! Nerve-racking, but exciting. Feel more prepared for it thanks to NAFEX.
  • 00:50:34 Lisa: Thank you for explaining NAFEX’s bylaws. I’m newer, been a member for 2 years and have been active in the California Rare Fruit Grower’s for the last 5 years.
  • 00:51:03 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: Lisa, are you interested in serving on the board?
  • 00:52:19 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: General board positions and you can say you’d be interested in volunteering in general
  • 00:53:58 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: Sounds great, Lisa
  • 00:54:47 robert liebermann, upper peninsula: OK, I’ll be willing to help out as possible – I can make decent maps, edit/proofread, whatever. Rather new to group so ought to hang around a bit before anything too responsible… Just a gardener/orchardist & feral fruit fan but also a botanist.
  • 00:55:44 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: Awesome, Robbert. Thanks
  • 00:56:07 John Stupica: Also in my window it is the top right corner with 3 (…) periods, that you can click on to get the drop down menu to rename.
  • 01:02:01 Matt.Stevens: I’d be happy to volunteer to do an interest group on microbials (beneficial fungi and beneficial bacteria) if that’s of interest.
  • 01:02:08 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: Thanks, Matt
  • 01:03:18 Jan Dietrick, W Ventura: We can help with a Meetup in SW – southern California
  • 01:03:26 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: The Interest Group organizer position is very fun. It’s only one meeting a month and you get to meet some of the leading fruit growers
  • 01:03:59 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: If you have skills in Canva or graphic design, that would be super helpful.
  • 01:05:53 Melissa Flora: Happily accepting mentors in Michigan! 😄
  • 01:06:46 Larry Stephenson: Yep, NAFEX’s fault that I’m poor and dirty all the time.
  • 01:07:00 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: Haha Larry!
  • 01:08:18 Kaitlyn Chambers: I have a “tell” rather than “show”, so I’m happy to wait till the end!
  • 01:11:00 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: Kaitlyn, just use the Raise Hand button
  • 01:12:31 michael s thompson: Where are you?
  • 01:14:04 michael s thompson: Thank you
  • 01:20:02 Barbara Deardorff Alaska: Kaitlyn what is the name of your organization
  • 01:21:22 Kaitlyn Chambers: Isha Foundation, which hosts the Save Soil as well. I’m located at the Isha Institute of Inner Sciences in Tennessee USA

  • 01:34:18 Kaitlyn Chambers: Alex, can you post that recipe on the Facebook group or in the Pomona?
  • 01:36:11 michael s thompson: where are you?
  • 01:36:18 Jan Dietrick, W Ventura: We have made Sapote leather, sometimes mixing it with SCOBY from kombucha. Yum.
  • 01:37:16 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: John is in SW Nebraska
  • 01:41:27 Eric Bina: Amy, did you test your apple at https://myfruittree.org/welcome
  • 01:41:51 Dan Lefever: mixing hardy kiwi with persimmon adds a bit of tartness to the fruit leather. I dry it on wax paper and then when dry put it in oven to heat the bottom wax paper and it peels right off. (probably puts a bit of parafin wax on the leather)
  • 01:42:09 Kaitlyn Chambers: Matt, is there a consideration for runoff in the rows? can’t tell how far apart they are

  • 01:43:04 Kaitlyn Chambers: Also Matt, have you considered using Korean Natural Farming techniques in this trial as well?
  • 01:43:10 Eric Bina: Mixing a little but of applesauce with the persimmon makes a more flexible leather, and also adds tartness
  • 01:43:59 Sonja Trask: Matt’s experiment might be a good Pomona article, ongoing
