00:10:45 janet: I’ve heard reference to an (old) grafting document, but didn’t see it on the NAFEX website (though I might have missed it). At some point tonight would you post a link to it? Thanks
00:17:32 Chuck: Kris Heeter, I just got a txt from Oriana – she cant get in to the zoom.
00:18:10 Leslie Wade: Chuck, she’s just been admitted
00:18:36 Chuck: thx
00:22:15 Roy Ross: If extra people would turn off their videos, we could read the typing
00:29:09 Jeanne Calabrese: I am not able to see the entire screen . . . is there a way to center the slides? It’s mainly the left edge that is cut off.
00:29:49 Kris Klueg Heeter: Jeanne, have you tried changing the speaker view (upper right hand corner)?
00:29:58 Leslie Wade: Jeanne, it must be your screen view. Can you maximize your ZOOM screen?
00:31:03 Leslie Wade: Kris is correct. Click on your View button in the upper right. Still, it sounds like your ZOOM app isn’t maximized in your screen, Jeanne.
00:34:11 Leslie Wade: Everyone, feel free to share your favorite tips or grafting experiences in the chat.
00:34:50 janet: I’ve used Elmer’s glue to protect the ends of old garden roses when cut. Does that work at all for the top end of grafted scion wood?
00:37:07 Leslie Wade: Some folks use nail polish to seal the tips.
00:38:49 Brian Vogel: yrd
00:47:19 Juan Carlos Arango: Can you talk about multiple grafting in the same tree? is it the same procedure?
00:50:50 Juan Carlos Arango: thank you
00:51:00 Melissa: Thank you!!
01:01:33 contrarianfarm: We use Vaseline to top any of our grafts, works great. Also, have always preferred plain old masking tape around our graft unions to any of the specialty tapes.
01:06:02 Aras: Is there supposed to be a video from speaker?
01:06:48 Kris Klueg Heeter: Aras, yes, the speaker is on video
01:07:19 Aras: oh I see him now, thanks. I think would be better if their video was focused if possible
01:07:55 Aras: Oh nvm I see thanks! 😛
01:10:08 Chris Homanics: Don’t let Doc Farwell’s to ever freeze – it will ruin it! 🙁
01:11:19 Brian Vogel: I can see
01:11:26 BarbaraR: Ii can see it.
01:13:55 Amber Marek: was that bark graft best for certain species or certain times of year or is it just personal preference? (first time grafter currently considering cleft for sour cherry and whip/tongue for apple)
01:19:51 Theo Barta: Why cut 3 times?
01:28:52 James Hallman: Eliza Greenman has a recipe for a Doc Farwells graft seal substitute. 30% waterproof wood glue & 70% exterior latex paint.
01:35:13 Susan Poizner: Has anyone tried to use electrical tape (the stretchy type) instead of buddy tape?
01:36:02 michael s thompson: Thank you for the very informative grafting demo.
01:36:48 David’s iPad: I tested grafting with silicone tape last spring. Do I need to pull that off?
01:36:56 Amber Marek: thanks!
01:37:20 Melissa: Once you’ve finished your graft.. What are the best practices for potting after that? Any soil type? Best ph?
01:37:58 Matt Soltys: What would be best method for introducing a second variety onto a young tree – can you whip & tongue onto a small branch, or bud onto an appropriate sized branch? Does the fact the rest of the tree is growing affect the take of the new graft?
01:38:35 Mark Wolbers: Yes, splicing electrical tape. However, it doesn’t break up over time like parafilm. It actually is stretchy and can put more pressure on the graft like a rubber. I sometimes use it over the parafilm to reinforce and hold the union.
01:39:11 Susan Poizner: Thank you Mark Wolbers!
01:41:01 Amber Marek: Z3 in MN, received rootstock this week. still snowing here. should I pot now and leave in dark garage for a few weeks? or leave heeled in wood chips in a bin?
01:42:17 Chuck: Band pots are made on the west coast, shipping is crazy now. Who is in Midwest or south who sells them?
01:42:55 Marc-Andre Longpre: I do use teflon tape for pipes and wax over it
01:42:59 Melissa: What is the main difference between bench graft and field graft? Why do one over the other?
01:43:31 Alan Leighton: When using buddy tape is it best to use a wax over it?
01:46:12 Carol’s iPhone: Do you recommend tools that cut a groove like a puzzle piece in both the scion and root stock?
01:47:16 Chris Homanics: there is a company in Missouri that sells them. sorry don’t remember the name
01:47:54 Susan Poizner: I’ve got to go, but thank you! This was a wonderful workshop!
01:47:58 Larry (he/him) & Jenniffer (she/her): Shipping doubles the cost of Anderson bands. And, everyone’s out right now.
01:48:51 Amber Marek: Thanks for the tips! I’m excited to get into this 😄
01:50:02 kristina: we use rubberbands or electric tape over buddy tape. if electric tape, you need to peel it off in a couple months. rubber bands disintegrate
01:52:52 Carol’s iPhone: Thank you-very useful info
01:53:02 Aras: Thank you
01:53:13 Melissa: I appreciate the time and knowledge 😃
01:53:27 David’s iPad: Excellent info
01:54:15 Taylor Malone: I bought those silicon finger tips on Amazon
01:54:28 John Stupica: Great Presentations, thanks All!
01:54:36 Theo Barta: How far north persimmons and paw paw?
01:54:59 Matt Soltys: Thank you both! Excellent workshop.
01:55:00 BarbaraR: Thank you!
