  • 00:51:03 Dan Lefever: Forgot to say I am on central VA zone7
  • 00:54:16 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: You can get clean scion/bud wood from the Citrus Clonal Protection Program through University of California, Riverside.
  • 00:54:29 Janet Pflederer: My nephew raved about the sweet lemons he had in Egypt. Would anyone know what the botanical name is?
  • 00:56:06 Lana: https://citrusresearch.org/research-projects/citrus-clonal-protection-program
  • 00:56:42 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: Reacted to “https://citrusresear…” with 👍🏼
  • 00:59:04 Jorge J. Zaldivar: The Key lime is from Arabia
  • 00:59:05 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: Feel free to share if you have specific cold-hardy cultivars you’ve had successes (or failures) with.
  • 01:00:49 Jorge J. Zaldivar: I’m using Rangpur lime as a rootstock here in Miami / Redland
  • 01:01:11 HP: I am in zone 7a/6b and am growing inground citrus. I I am also growing owari satsuma, citrumelo, and a limequat
  • 01:01:18 Jorge J. Zaldivar: Citrus x limonia is the last hybrid binomial I’ve tracked
  • 01:02:04 Jorge J. Zaldivar: Rangpur is an Indian lime that is orange inside and highly acidic
  • 01:04:19 HP: I have the zwingle citrumelo
  • 01:06:10 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: Anyone doing crosses or breeding?
  • 01:09:19 michael: I’m in Anchorage Alaska (zone 4). During the summer I can get good growth of my citrus when outside in summer, but nothing is flowering.
  • Ages range from 3 to 12 years.
  • Kumquat, grapefruit, and tangerine
  • They are inside from early Oct to mid May under grow lights.
  • What can I do to help encourage flowering?
  • 01:10:49 Janet Pflederer: Are there specific micro nutrients that encourage flowering?
  • 01:11:02 michael: Do you have a recommendation for a micronutrient fertilizer?
  • 01:13:01 HP: At what temp do you need in order for citrus to flower/
  • 01:13:05 Chuck Wilson: Who or where in NE has the greenhouse warmed or cooled by air duct
  • 01:13:22 Nataki Embden: I like to use espoma citrus tone, but a 3-1-2 is what we were always taught.
  • 01:13:24 Dan Lefever: Soluble seaweed and humates, will push bud production. More P, lessN, and manganese
  • 01:15:07 michael: Reacted to “Soluble seaweed and …” with 👌
  • 01:15:50 michael: Replying to “Who or where in NE h…”
  • Look on YouTube for Greenhouse in the snow

  • 01:17:30 Chuck Wilson: Replying to “Who or where in NE h…”
  • thx
  • 01:19:18 HP: How long will satsumas hang on a tree after they turn orange?
  • 01:19:22 Lee Reich: I’m tempted to try finger lime.
  • 01:19:24 Dan Lefever: Jobes also has a specific citrus fertilizer, I think it is slow release Organics based as is Espoma. Getting Mg into the leaves for chlorosis is the issue. Need biologically and fulvic acid bound chemically reduced , Mg, MN, and Iron to build chlorophyll, increase photosynthetic output, and increase plant health
  • 01:20:32 michael: I have some ability to change the temperature of the room where I overwinter my citrus. Do you have a recommendation on a temperature profile for the parts of the year to try and stimulate flowering while they are tucked away inside?
  • 01:29:20 Nick Kasko: I have noticed my satsumas tend to dry out if I leave them on the tree for much more than a few weeks. I grow in a greenhouse
  • 01:29:36 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: Thanks, Nick
  • 01:29:39 Nataki Embden: In the southeast where I grow, the satsumas dry out within 4 weeks, so oct-dec season depending on variety. They don’t hang like Oranges. 😞
  • 01:33:03 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: Source mentioned by Nick Kasko: Stan the Citrus Man from South Carolina
  • 01:33:16 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: For cold hardy cultivars
  • 01:37:24 Olivia Mandilk: What causes some lemon trees to produce thick skins?
  • 01:41:42 Nataki Embden: I have a Thomasville citrangequat in Atlanta that is outside for 7 years. Its good for zone 8 or zones 7 with protection, once it’s 3 years old or so..
  • 01:42:17 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: Thanks, Nataki
  • 01:43:01 Olivia Mandilk: Thank you, Lee!
  • 01:43:05 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: William Chandler book: Evergreen Orchards book from 1940s has a good section on growing citrus
  • 01:43:18 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: Recommendation from Lee Reich
  • 01:44:32 Lee Reich: William Chandler “Evergreen Orchards” 1958
  • 01:47:27 michael: Is there a citrus equivalent to hard cider?
  • 01:49:26 Dan Lefever: Has anyone ever gotten their hands on Sumo fruit or Dakotan scion wood or trees?
  • 01:50:18 Nataki Embden: I’ve made limoncello, marmalade, preserved the fruit in salt to make a type of kosho with habaneros and other peppers
  • 01:50:28 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: Reacted to “I’ve made limoncello…” with ❤️
  • 01:51:05 Nataki Embden: Seasoned salts with the zest and basil. Rosemary, or other herbs work great as well
  • 01:51:33 Kris Klueg Heeter: Reacted to “Seasoned salts with …” with 👍
  • 01:52:40 Nataki Embden: If you puree the preserved lemons, it also works well in salad dressing or marinades
  • 01:52:57 Dan Lefever: Not Dakotan that was to read Dekopan
  • 02:05:41 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: Ryan recommends the fabric pots because it helps the citrus air prune itself. Much better than hard containers.
  • 02:06:35 Nataki Embden: I point I’d like to make
  • 02:09:15 Kris Klueg Heeter: Email us at admin@nafexmembers,org if you interested i hosting an in person tour this fall!
  • 02:09:45 Kris Klueg Heeter: We’ll be hosting on in Indiana – thanks to Sobremesa Farm!
  • 02:09:50 Nataki Embden: 👏
