  • 00:20:57 suriksaccount: Could you share the screen?
  • 00:22:22 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: Chris has a file of Joseph’s favorite selections that he plans to share shortly
  • 00:22:26 JD-Eden’s Refuge (Ontario, Canada): What a great way to keep a legacy going
  • 00:23:05 Kris Klueg Heeter: He is likely operating his video on a different device🙂
  • 00:24:45 JD-Eden’s Refuge (Ontario, Canada): no
  • 00:29:47 JD-Eden’s Refuge (Ontario, Canada): Mine found my clothes line shortly after my knee surgery. I have a lot of unwrapping to do now. It’s worth it. I want to propagate so I may do that at the same time.
  • 00:30:18 Juan Carlos Arango – Sobremesa Farm: Do you prune and if so can you talk about it?
  • 00:30:26 Charlie H.: Interesting idea re: males up out of the way.
  • 00:34:02 Andrew Walsh: I have had two actinidia arguta vines for about 7 years now, originally purchased as small vines at a garden centre, and I haven’t had a single flower let alone fruit on either the male or the dumbarton oakes female. Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong/how to make them flower?
  • 00:37:17 JD-Eden’s Refuge (Ontario, Canada): Andrew Walsh, A lot of people up here in Ontario (Canada) find that it takes at least 6 years to get flowers, some were substantially longer.
  • 00:38:00 Andrew Walsh: JD, I’m in Eastern Canada, I was thinking it may be an issue of time, but I’ve been concerned it isn’t haha
  • 00:38:17 Mark Wolbers: In Alaska I grow Arctic Kiwi, A. Kolomikta “Sentyabraskaya” AKA “September Sun” as the female plant. This is Zone 3 and possibly 2, and ripen in our short season. Requires 2400 GDD/42°
  • 00:39:06 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: Reacted to “A. kolomita “Sentyabraskaya”.pdf” with 👍🏼
  • 00:39:42 JD-Eden’s Refuge (Ontario, Canada): Andrew, I was worried too and then all of the sudden I got about 50 fruit per vine the next year. It may be worth looking at the specific site conditions (soil, water, sun, competition, etc)
  • 00:40:43 Andrew Walsh: The area my vines are in is somewhat shaded by an old rowan, but plenty of water. As for nutrients in the soil, I’m open to suggestions on what the soil should have
  • 00:40:47 Adam Dusen: I was at the Kiwi Korners field trip in the 2016 NAFEX conference in PA. I have documents with their trellis specifications that they shared if anyone is interested in seeing them

  • 00:44:08 Melinda: About a month ago, I had what seemed like a healthy hardy kiwi vine start wilting and it dropped all its leaves. Some branches are dead but there is still some life in the vine. Any insight as to what may have happened and what I should do? I can share a photo if that would help.

  • 00:47:48 nicole: Do people with allergies have an issue with that?
  • 00:49:02 Adam Dusen: Speaking of Kiwi Korners, they created a cultivar there that they grow commercially called ‘Passion Poppers’ I think. Does anyone know if this cultivar is available anywhere? I don’t know if its patented or not, but I don’t believe it is.
  • 00:50:12 Ken Conway: I plan on starting a commercial vineyard. And im exploring varieties and reading about contolled-atmospher for storage.
  • 00:51:32 Ken Conway: Also, looking into a range of harvest times, early, mid and late
  • 00:52:59 Charlie H.: Melinda, did the soil get waterlogged? The only time I’ve had a sudden death-like event like that I believe the plant drowned.
  • 00:53:37 Adam Dusen: I came late – is there a link to access the file being shown right now?
  • 00:53:38 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: Melinda, we’d love to have you share. I have your photos too if you want me to put them up.
  • 00:54:34 Kris Klueg Heeter: Adam, we are going to make it available as a supplement with the recorded video on our website. with Joseph’s permission.
  • 00:54:35 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: @Nicandra Galper I also have your photos to share as well when we get into more discussion

  • 00:57:02 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: Chris, can you share which zones Joseph’s and Chad’s favorites would be appropriate for?
  • 00:57:27 Melinda: no flooding – I’m located in Georgia near Atlanta
  • 00:57:55 Melinda: left is healthy dumbarton oaks, right is “dead” anna
  • 00:58:05 Ken Conway: I read that hardy kiwi like acid soil
  • 00:58:12 Melinda: The bark peeled from the vine
  • 01:00:09 Melinda: Thank you!
  • 01:09:24 Adam Dusen: I am in a warm 6b, very nearly zone 7. Has anyone had any luck growing any of the fuzzy kiwis (deliciosa) in zone 6b? I recall there being one or two cultivars that are supposed to be a little hardier than most.
  • 01:09:48 Jean Williams: My deliciosa male pollinates my hardies just fine.
  • 01:11:42 Jean Williams: Anna and Jumbo
  • 01:14:16 Bill Arendt: Any Cultivar Recommendations to try in Houston/9A
  • 01:24:12 Nicandra Galper: I have many mice and voles and have never had a problem. I do my main pruning in the winter and additional pruning in the summer.
  • 01:29:28 Juan Carlos Arango – Sobremesa Farm: Management after harvesting them? do you need to keep them refrigerated?
  • 01:29:49 Leslie Wade, NAFEX Host: Great question, Juan Carlos
  • 01:31:11 Lyle Overley: source of cuttings?
  • 01:33:25 EVE EMSHWILLER: I know people around here in Madison, WI (~zone 5 in the newer USDA map) that grow A. arguta successfully. The new bit of land that I bought to try to grow a food forest is on the edge of 4B/5A, even on the new map. Is it better to try A. kolomikta there?
  • 01:38:56 Olivia Mandilk: Recommendations from our local Kiwi growers…
