Chris Homanics
Head, Hands, Heart Nursery & Seed and Fruittreelabels.com
Chris Homanics has lived a diverse mosaic of experiences where he has followed his childhood spirit toward a lifeway of fully embracing the natural world. A plant explorer at heart, he has traveled around for years collecting and preserving all types of bioregionally adapted fruits, nuts, and vegetables while in search of an year-around sustainable diet for a future land-based society.
As a plant breeder at heart, he is working with a wide variety of crop species including colorful potatoes, nutritious high protein orange corn, perennial onions, perennial bush kales, and tree crops like apples, pears, peaches, figs, mulberries, grapes, chestnuts, hazelnuts, walnuts, and more. His love of cooking has led to a consideration of beauty and the epicurean traits of flavor, nutrition, texture, and color when selecting those crops.
Chris runs a wholesale nursery called Head, Hands, Heart Nursery and Seed which disseminates a selection of this material. He is also launching fruittreelabels.com to provide high-quality metal tree tags and labels to home and commercial growers.
Chris is Vice President of the NAFEX board of directors and is excited to help continue to develop the organization. Also a co-founder of the Agrarian Sharing Network which is a bioregional-oriented people-powered movement to empower community self-sufficiency by bolstering food security through sharing resilient agrobiodiversity at plant propagation fairs throughout the Pacific Northwest. He enjoys teaching to empower people and has spoken on a variety of topics related to fruit exploring, agriculture, horticulture, plant breeding, wildcrafting, and more. The only viable future is to be in full relationship with the land.
