Harry grew up in Northern Ontario (Zone 3), where apples would not grow, so discovering Salt Spring Island, BC, in 1980 (Zone 8), launched his love of apples into reality: Apple Luscious Organic Orchard was born. This certified organic orchard grows about 210 apple varieties including about 60 varieties of red flesh apples on Bud 118 rootstock, so using larger trees, which require no summer irrigation. Salt Spring Island is the perfect apple growing climate, with summer temperatures seldom going over 25 degrees C (77 degrees F) and winter temperatures hovering around 0 degrees C (32 degrees F). Harry considers himself a lucky man. He also runs the Salt Spring Apple Festival, now in its 21st year, where they displayed 420 apple varieties in 2019. Learn more at: saltspringapplefestival.org
